Follina is a small community of ancient origins, dating form before 1000AD. The town is situated in the foothills of the Treviagian Alps, halfway between Valdobbiadene and Vittorio Veneto. The community was developed in the 12th century by a group of Cistercian monks, who used the abundant water supply of the area to establish a flourishing industry in woollen goods.
The town is located in an enchanting spot in the Valsana, its' key point of interest being the Abbey of Santa Maria. This was founded circa 1150AD, and is built in Roman-Gothic Style. The Abbey not only constitutes a religious and spiritual centre for pilgrims and tourists alike, but is also known as one of the most significant monuments of the region.Considered amongst the most important monastic centres in Italy, Follina is also the focal point for a proliferation of cultural activities, of which the most famous are the outstanding International Festival of Classical Music, and the Annual Concert with Uto Ughi which is held in conjunction with the hotel.

These days, the town is an important cultural tourist centre, composed of seventeenth century palazzi, as well as being a hub of industry and craftsmanship, resulting from the buoyant hotel trade. The town is also the birthplace of several well-known figures: Jacopo Bernardi, Paolo Bernardi, Domenico Rosina and Agostino Moretti.
